Seoul, Korea / July 30, 2009 - LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, officially revealed today the full image and key specifications of the new LG Chocolate phone (model: LG-BL40).
The fourth handset of the Black Label Series boasts a distinctive 4.0-inch wide screen high-definition LCD with an 800 by 345 pixel resolution for a superb viewing quality. The wide screen breaks away from conventional screen designs with a 21:9 aspect ratio for a panoramic, cinema-like quality and optimal mobile computing experience.
With the enlarged screen, users will experience a surprisingly convenient and efficient mobile environment. Browsing the Internet is made incredibly easy because with 800 pixels at one’s disposal, there is no need to scroll horizontally to read entire web pages. The 4.0-inch display also features a Dual Screen UI that can efficiently display two different types of content simultaneously.
The wide HD LCD “Real VGA” screen provides a full range of natural colors for displayed images, making photos more crisp, videos more true-to-life, games more dynamic and documents more readable.
“The initial response to the new LG Chocolate phone has exceeded our expectations by a wide margin,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications. “Although much interest seems focused on the striking shape of the handset, the real surprise will be when people discover the advantages of the 4.0-inch screen in terms of viewing pleasure and ease of use.”
The new LG Chocolate’s wide screen is overlaid with curved tempered glass and is seamlessly encased in a glossy black finish and iconic red highlights. Although the screen may be much wider, the new LG Chocolate makes an incredibly slim and chic style statement that was also inherent in the original Chocolate.
The Palm Pre is all set to make its mark in this hi-tech world. It is believed that the Palm Pre could be available from March on a Sprint cellular network. However, this device will not be available immediately in all stores after its launch.
Palm revealed the power of Pre on the previous month’s Consumer Electronics Show. However, the pricing of this device is still kept a secret. It is believed that the device can rule the cellular market and may rule out all other highly advanced phones, if the price of this device is affordable.
The Palm Pre is sleek in design with 3.1-inch touchscreen display, which has a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. In addition, this device has a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out in a downward direction. The phone also comes with accelerometers for switching the phone from portrait mode to landscape mode and vice-versa for widescreen browsing.
Palm claims that the Palm Pre is similar to laptop with respect to speed and power, as it runs on a new TI OMAP CPU and a new webOS operating system. It is integrated with Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Rev. A that features uninterrupted connectivity anywhere around the world. This device comes with built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0.
The Palm Pre comes with 8GB of phone memory to store office documents and multimedia files. In addition, this device has a 3-megapixel camera with flash to capture stills of high quality. It is believed that the phone is equipped with many unknown features such as capability to integrate contacts from the phone’s address book into Gmail, Outlook Exchange, Facebook and other websites.
According to Palm, this Smartphone will only be available with Sprint for first six months. The firm is still planning to announce details regarding the pricing and releasing dates of Palm Pre.

Dentsu to Launch Electronic Magazine Subscription Service “MAGASTORE”
Dentsu Inc. (President & CEO: Tatsuyoshi Takashima; Head Office: Tokyo; Capital: 58,967.1 million yen) announced today that this summer, through a partnership with digital contents distribution technology leader YAPPA Corporation (CEO: Masahiro Ito; Head Office Tokyo; hereinafter, “YAPPA”), it will launch “MAGASTORE,” a specialized sales business selling electronic magazines on mobile phones and other platforms.
Service will begin as an application on Apple’s iPhone, and then be introduced gradually to other carriers.
The background and characteristics of this new service development are as follows.
Background and Aim of the New Service
The yearly domestic market for electronic distribution services including books and comics is around 73 billion yen (see Note 1), but magazines are still not as easy to view as books and comics, and the electronic delivery service market for magazines has not yet been established.
However, with the rapid spread of mobile phones with large-screen, high-resolution, touch-panel displays such as the iPhone, certain electronic magazine delivery services are beginning to appear. Against this backdrop, Dentsu has partnered with YAPPA, with its high-level mobile phone digital contents distribution technology, to develop a viewer suitable for electronic magazine viewing and a sales platform for electronic magazine contents.
Concurrently, Dentsu has actively pursued negotiations with publishers for their participation. Sales of 30 types of magazines from 20 publishers have been confirmed for the launch of the service, with this expected to grow to 50 types of magazines from 30 publishers within the year.
Development is also expanding not only for iPhone applications, but also for the official sites of other mobile carriers, personal computers and videogame consoles.
Furthermore, while the electronic magazine contents initially sold will not contain advertisements, future plans call for the inclusion of advertisements.

As of today you can point your iPhone to the App Store and download Sling's place-shifting TV app. After a very long wait, the app finally made it into Apple's bonanza store, but Sling's attempt proves to be quite expensive and crippled from birth. To enjoy place-shifted TV, you must first have a SlingBox(starting at $147) and then purchase the $30 iPhone app. If you count in the cost of your iPhone and call plan and your home broadband access (which you need for the SlingBox), you get a very expensive mobile TV-viewing experience. Oh, and you can do it only via Wi-Fi.
Sling's iPhone app can play your place-shifted TV only via Wi-Fi, thanks to AT&T, which has a strict no-SlingBox policy. AT&T said in an official statement last night that Sling's app "could create congestion and potentially prevent other customers from using the network." On top of that, it's prohibited under the carriers' TOS, which considers the iPhone a personal computer.
